Beginning in 1864, the British leadership of Ireland created the documentation of the births, marriages, and deaths of all residents
of Ireland. Revealing family clues often appear on these registrations.
Nearly 20% of the Irish population avoided this documentation of their
life events, but over time, after many years and penalties, the registration
came to be generally accepted. Copies of birth, marriage and death registrations are available from Ireland, and may be purchased directly
from the website of the Irish GRO--the General Registry Office today in
Roscommon. Years of Civil Registrations totalling 1000s of films have
been captured and preserved by the Latter Day Saints (LDS). Films are
available to view all around the world and are headquartered and rented
from the Salt Lake City Utah LDS depository.
There may be an LDS Family History Center near you! LDS film rental
costs are minimal -now $6.00 each, and considering the flight to Ireland
or costs of a hired genealogical researcher, that is cheap. No one will
search for clues as well as you do. |
