While researching Irish history has been
impacted by the 1922 Irish Civil War,
which destroyed documents and census
records in Dublin, many official Parish
records remain to seek one's family origin
in Ireland.

Most of Ireland was Catholic at the time of
emigration, and, while the Irish struggled
not to let the British document and record
them, the strong Irish commitment to their
religion created a wealth of Sacramental
records that vary in time from about 1810 to present. Bits and pieces of history remain----inconsistent as to location and accessibility, to be sure. But records are scattered everywhere. Irish are getting data captured and posted to the internet. Films still remain inlibraries in great quantities, waiting to be discovered, and are underutilized in Irish family research. These films of Irish records, taxation and local newspaper articles tell the stories of families, communities, emigration, and the Ireland of our ancestors' time.
